Data transfers from the EU to the UK remain legal after Brexit
The UK left the European Union on 31 January 2020, but the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (EC 2016/679) remains
in force in the UK. The provisions of GDPR were incorporated directly into UK law, alongside the UK's Data Protection Act 2018.
CONCORD and VENUSCANCER are compliant with GDPR.
On 28 June 2021, the EU Commission adopted an "adequacy decision" under GDPR Article 45. This means that the EU considers that
the UK data protection regime is equivalent to that under GDPR in EU Member States: "A transfer of personal data to a third
country [...] may take place where the Commission has decided that the third country [...] ensures an adequate level of protection.
Such a transfer shall not require any specific authorisation." The EU Commission's adequacy decision therefore enables data
transfers to the UK to continue on the same legal basis as if the UK were still an EU Member State.
